Not a particularly exciting update today, as I have been cleaning the crud infested carburettor again and I still have a way to go. I normally cut my own gaskets, but I think I may struggle to make one for between the float bowl and the carburettor body, especially as there are jets that the gasket goes around. Hmmm, I shall have to look in to getting a kit for this Zenith unit.

I have also taken the opportunity to clear the garage up a bit before I tackle the chassis again, which will be followed closely by the rear axle.

Despite the best laid plans and all that, I got pulled in to working on Ollie. All I had to do was fit two new seat belts to the Land Rover and then I would be free to get back on with Betsy.....how long would two seat belts take to fit, eh? Well the answer is a little over five hours, as everything fought back and I ended up taking out bracketry, seats and even some captive fittings.

I will have to try harder next weekend!

It still looks less than hansome, but you should have seen it before I started cleaning it!20th June 2010

Still faffing around sorting out Ollie's maladies this weekend (and I can see even more on the horizon); nonetheless, I managed to finish cleaning and reassembling the carb and moved on to the handbrake assembly. This I degreased and cleaned of loose paint. The whole assembly is set aside on my bench ready for painting.

Meanwhile, I need to lay my hands on a filter gauze for the carb and then it can be fitted to the engine and upon purchase of some suitable rubber piping, I'll be able to fit the air filter too.

Work is currently on hold whilst we prepare for the Raising the Roof Classic Vehicle Rally, which is on 10th July 2010. Signs are being erected, the showground is being prepared, local volunteer groups and emergency services are all being brought up to speed. Who knew there'd be this much to organise? And lest I forget, the Fete team are also going full steam, getting everything ready for a family fun day in the field next door to the rally.

I did manage, however, to make time to buy some gas for my MIG welder. Watch this space for more chassis welding shortly.
